This collection brings together three of their earliest concerto recordings: ‘Baroque Trumpet Concertos, ‘Recital for Strings and ‘18th Century Flute Concertos’, the three LPs receiving their first complete release on CD. John Wilbraham and Claude Monteux were, respectively, the trumpet and flute soloists on these recordings. Crispness of ensemble, stylish delivery, flexible and febrile performances, and rich-toned recordings were their hallmarks. This pioneering 2CD set was issued in celebration of the Academy’s 50th anniversary and these recordings form part of a series of Marriner reissues on Eloquence.

‘Contains some playing of uncommon brilliance … John Wilbraham is one of the most athletic, clean-toned and brilliant of trumpeters today’ [‘Baroque Trumpet Concertos’: Telemann, Albinoni, Hertel, Fasch] Gramophone

‘The most alert string-playing distinguishes this record … first-class quality of recording throughout’ [‘Recital for Strings’: Telemann, Gabrieli, Vivaldi, Handel] Gramophone

CD 1
1 TELEMANN: Trumpet Concerto in D major
2 ALBINONI: Trumpet Concerto in C major
3 HERTEL: Concerto a cinque
4 FASCH: Trumpet Concerto in D major, FWV L:D1
5 TELEMANN: Viola Concerto in G major (51:G9)
6 GABRIELI: Canzon noni toni a 12, C183

CD 2
1 VIVALDI: Concerto in B minor for four violins, Op. 3 No. 10 (from ‘L’estro armonico’)
2 HANDEL: Concerto Grosso in A minor, Op. 6 No. 4
3 QUANTZ: Flute Concerto in D major (pour Potsdam)
4 LOEILLET: Flute Concerto in D major
5 GRÉTRY: Flute Concerto in C major
6 LECLAIR: Flute Concerto in C major

John Wilbraham, trumpet
Simon Streatfield, viola
Neville Marriner, Norman Nelson, Anthony Howard, Trevor Connah, violins
Claude Monteux, flute
Academy of St. Martin in the Fields
Neville Marriner

https://classicselectworld.com/de-de/products/various-concerto-a-la-carte-wilbraham-streatfield-monteaux-asmf
