The work calls for an oboe soloist of virtuosic skill, which is expertly handled here by LSO Principal Olivier Stankiewicz. At the other end, Rattle closed the concert with the popular second suite from \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eDaphnis et Chloé.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003eViolinist Leonidas Kavakos presents his intepretation of Henri Dutilleux’s violin concerto \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eL’arbre des songes\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. Composed between 1983 and 1985, the title translates as ‘\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe Tree of Dreams’\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e and the work is based on a process of continual growth and renewal, as the composer explained: \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e‘All in all the piece grows somewhat like a tree, for the constant multiplication and renewal of its branches is the lyrical essence of the tree.’\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e Rattle also presents a second work by Dutilleux, 1964’s \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eMétaboles\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRounding out the programme, American soprano Julia Bullock shines in Maurice Delage’s \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eQuatre poèmes hindous\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e.
