Bach: Cantatas, BWV 131, 152, 161: Daniel Taylor, Jan Kobow, Stephen Varcoe, Theatre of Early Music

The Theater of Early Music (TEM), Daniel Taylor's new ensemble, is back on this second disc. There shine four leading singers in three of Bach's oldest cantatas, with a rich and varied instrumentation. In keeping with some research into the historical performance of Bach's cantatas, the works are presented here with a single singer per part in the choral sections. The benefits of such a solution for the expressive rendition and clarity of Bach's counterpoint become evident upon listening.
