“Cliff Jordan”; “Blowing In From Chicago”; “Cliff Craft” and “Bearcat”
What a great place for a jazzman to be born, Chicago, Illinois! That’s where our under-rated tenor saxophonist Cliff, later Clifford Jordan was born in 1931. We feature all three of his Blue Note recordings and add the classic Bearcat from 1962. Jordan followed a well-worn path for many jazz men gigging with players who would go on to become legendary figures in jazz. Men like Horace Silver, Max Roach, Sonny Stitt, Kenny Dorham, Charles Mingus and Eric Dolphy to name but a few. For the “Blowing” session he is joined by future Sun Ra regular John Gilmore also on tenor sax, you really need to hear this fine blowing set! Also heard supporting are the likes of John Jenkins, Curtis Fuller, Lee Morgan, Ray Bryant, Paul Chambers, Art Taylor, Art Blakey, Art Farmer, Sonny Clark and Louis Hayes.
Check out Lee Morgan (AMSC1255), Ray Bryant (AMSC1190), Curtis Fuller (AMSC1326), Paul Chambers (AMSC1324), Horace Silver AMSC1260, Art Blakey AMSC1269, Sonny Clark AMSC1250, Classic Jazz Drummers (AMSC1297), Ike Quebec (AMSC1322), Stanley Turrentine (AMSC1319), John Coltrane (AMSC1230) and Stan Getz (AMSC1234).
