Musikalische Exequien ("Musical Exequies") is a three-part funeral oratorio by German composer Heinrich Schütz (1585–1672), published in 1636. Commissioned for the funeral of Prince Heinrich Reuss, the work is considered the first German requiem and combines German chorale traditions with Italianate solo passages to express grief and comfort during the Thirty Years' War. It is a monumental work of sacred music, noted for its emotional urgency and profound interpretation of biblical texts.
