Hard Bop tenor sax maestro Hank Mobley had a laid back, melodic sound that found its home somewhere between the raw power of Coltrane and the smooth cool of Stan Getz. He was pretty much self-trained on his chosen instrument when at 19 years of age he found himself playing in local bands before arriving professionally to play with Dizzy Gillespie and Max Roach. Known as a hard bop player Mobley was in at the beginning of the hard bop era playing in the Horace Silver Jazz Messengers alongside Art Blakey, Doug Watkins and Kenny Dorham. He would go on to have a prolific solo career making over twenty albums for Blue Note and playing with all the greats from Grant Green, Freddie Hubbard to Lee Morgan, Wynton Kelly and Philly Joe Jones. Here we present all the jazz messages of Hank Mobley!
