For our album selection on this Four Classic Albums Plus set by Pierino Ronald “Perry” Como, better known to you and I as plain old Perry Como, we have chosen four lesser known albums out of the many many albums the great man produced during his lengthy and unbroken 44 year career with RCA VICTOR. They are classics in that that they feature the wonderful voice of Perry Como and we here at AVID are pleased to make these four albums available for the first time on CD outside of expensive box sets! Perry Como rose to fame in the late 1930s and 1940s and particularly found teenage acclaim during the bobby soxers years when Frank Sinatra ruled the waves as the eras most sensational crooner. After leaving his father’s barber shop business when he received an offer to join a touring musical band, Perry paid his dues on the road where he would also find work on radio and on some early recording sessions. However, by 1942 having had his first son he decided to quit music and go back to the day job, the barber shop! Offers started coming in and it wasn’t long before he re-entered the music biz but this time on his own terms where he could record and perform on the radio without having to leave home. And if that wasn’t enough Perry Como of course became a huge TV star in the States where at one point he became the highest paid TV star in the history of television.
